Making Photography more than a hobby

I have been thinking and talking about it for a while. Can I take my photography hobby to a new level? Will people want me to take photos of them and/or their family? Will they pay me for this?

I know I'd love it - I've been talking about doing it for 10 years!

I am trying to create a portfolio of my best photos. So far it's not very big but it's a goal.

In 2012 I'm challenging myself to take a "photo a day" but I want it to remind me of the day in some way - not just a random photo. For example, yesterday I took some photos of our

Christmas decorations as I tried to pack them away for another year. Today i took a photo of bows Sofia made as she's learning to tie laces.
