Catch me if you can!

It's 6pm on Thanksgiving Monday and I have a few minutes so I'm going to catch you up! it's been 2 months so lots to say. I have missed you but will try to be short and sweet.  To say that our fall has been busy is an understatement but...we shall put heads down and move forward.  It's all good it's just that there is little time to blog.

Now, I left you just as Nana and Papa were arriving for a summer visit. That's always a big treat because Nana and Papa love coming east in the summer. It truly is the most beautiful time to be here. When the sun shines and the ocean breeze blows you can't help but feel blessed to call such a beautiful place home. On that note, we decided to take the long weekend and see more of this beautiful province. Dad (papa) landed Friday evening and we picked him up at the airport and headed out of town....destination...cape breton! We made it as far as Baddeck by bedtime. It was nice to get all that way on the first day as the weather was cool and rainy so we didn't miss much for driving 4 hours.  Then we woke up to a beautiful day in Baddeck - it was HOT and sunny with beautiful views of the Bras d'Or lakes.  Our hotel was so close to downtown we were able to walk through town and take a quick visit to the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.  It really was very interesting and interactive. So informative and fun for the kids.

Kite flying on the grounds of the museum

Crazy times now possible with all 6 of us in a vehicle together!

From downtown Baddeck we headed inland to Margaree - there was a summer fair advertised and the "anything that can float" boat race down the Margaree river.  Meme and Pepe have (if i recall correctly) a beautiful painting of the Margaree area and it truly is stunning!

An entry in the anything that floats race. It was very interesting to watch all the different modes of transportation.

Eventually we made it to Sydney. We landed in a lovely hotel on the waterfront and enjoy some yummy food and beautiful evening strolls.

From Sydney it is a very quick drive to fortress Louisbourg which is a Canadian national historic site.  It's the reconstruction of an 18th century french fortress...I understand that the original settlement was much larger and they are working to restore and uncover new buildings all the time.  It's very interesting and we spent the day exploring - the kids really enjoyed it!

Hope you enjoyed those photos from the fortress. It has wonderful staff who dress in traditional costume and speak in french and act as though they are from the 1700s...it's fabulous for the kids.  On the way back from Cape Breton we stopped in Antigonish to show Nana and Papa Andre's old house and around the town. as the clouds parted we decided to take a quick stop to the snow queen for some go carts!  completely hilarious.
