Beautiful Burford in the Cotswolds

And so begins our United Kingdom summer vacation 2014.  We landed on a Friday and eventually worked out the road signs, driving on the left hand side of the road, sitting on the right hand side of the car etc.  As we drove out of London (on what I think was the M4…or maybe the M25…I'm not entirely sure as I hadn't perfected my navigating skills at that point) it was pouring buckets…but we drove through the rain to the other side…and ended up in Burford, a beautiful village in the cotswolds, where the sun was shining, the views were amazing and the people were friendly and welcoming.

Dinner the first night at the Mermaid

Quiet little street in Burford

Burford High Street

Morning 1 and off to Warwick Castle!  This was privately owned until the late 20th century and is now a fabulous attraction that everyone can enjoy.  It was originally built by William the Conquerer which connected our vacation to France very nicely…since we visited Bayeux and the tapestry that tells the story of William in 11th century.

Lots of fun for the whole family.  Sword fight demonstrations

Scary villagers with pitch forks.

The river Avon

Medieval joust.

Back to Burford for another yummy pub dinner, this time at the Bull.

Round the Corner to the Angel for the annual summer music festival in the garden. So fun!

Hooray for Burford!

His final piece of work - the poem on his tomb which reads "Good friend, for Jesus' sake forebeare
To digg the dust enclosed heare;  Bleste be the man that spares thes stones,  And curst be he that moves my bones"
