I swear I was just a bride...excitedly planning my wedding...nope, that was 13 years ago...Well then, I am sure I was just pregnant yesterday....nope that was a decade ago! And didn't we just renovate this house? oh wait, that was 5 year ago!!! OH MY! I remember we used to count our lives in months...and then years...well I think I'm now counting in decades!! AHHHH....
I have been working my way through our old photos (from before Jake was born) in an attempt to finally get them sorted and printed into memory books so I can stop panicking about them being lost forever if something happens to our computer. HA.
As I am doing this I am walking back through all the wonderful memories and realizing how fast time is going...I have also found some lovely stories I used to keep from when the children were little. I kept a record of each of their first years....writing down events from each week!...and along the way I made a list of all the things I noticed about babies and life with them. Here is a sample of what I have pasted into the back of the books documenting 2003 and 2004 - Jake's 1st years.
What we love.....
the way he shakes his hand when he's relaxed
the way he yawns
the way he looks at you when he's studying your face
the way his hands float infront of his face
the way his head smells
the way he sleeps with his arms up beside his head
the way he startles himself awake
the way he pouts
the way he makes squeaky noises when he's asleep
the way he talks while he's eating
how sad he looks when he has gas - and how happy he looks when it's gone
how innocent he looks in his carseat
how soft his skin is
the way he hides his face with his hands when he's eating
the way he sighs when he's really relaxed
the way he stretches when he wakes up
his little fingers and toes
his little ears
his pudgy arms
his big bright eyes
his chubby cheeks
that his hands are so clean, soft and smooth - because they've never done anything other than hold our fingers.
his little cooing sounds
the souls of his feet are so soft
the smiles we get 1st thing in the morning when he wakes up
his little sneezes
the way he giggles at his mobile
the way he coos in his bouncy chair
the way he sleeps in the swing
the way his whole body smiles when he smiles
his giggle
the way he "chats" and "sings" when we talk and sing (3.5 months)
the way he rubs a blanket on his face when he's trying to go to sleep
the way he smiles with his tongue sticking out (4-5 months)
the way he gets cereal all over himself when he eats (5.5 months)
his fuzzy hair
his excited wiggle
the way he loves other babies
the way he whispers "mamamamama" in the middle of the night when he's drifting off to sleep
his hugs
his sweet warm smell when he's sleeping
the way he notices other babies and gets so excited to see them - especially his friends
the way he has a goofy grin when he knows he’s being cute (11 months)
he's wonderful just the way he is!
